Visa Information

Immigration and Visas

While there are several options open to those wishing to visit and/or immigrate to Panama, the most popular visas are the Retiree and Investors Visas. Below is information on the different types of visas available.

Tourist Visas

To enter Panama as a Tourist, US citizens must have a valid passport with an expiration date at least six months from the date of entry as well as a return or ongoing ticket. A tourist card is also required and this can be obtained from the inbound air carrier or upon arrival in Panama. In June 2007 the Panama government made changes to its tourist visa policy. Instead of allowing tourists to stay in the country on a tourist visa for 90 days (which could be extended for a further 90 days), only 30 days are now allowed—with a possible 60-day extension. Due to the negative response from foreigners who have second homes in Panama and, therefore, spend an extended period of time in the country, as well as developers and business owners worried about the impact on the economy, the Government may consider reversing this decision.
